Our Story: The Road to Union's Got Talent

We began UGT as a fundraiser for my son's scholarship fund. Doug was 23 and a graduate of UHS and Wagner College where he majored in Theater and Arts Administration. He interned and got his dream job at MTV /Viacom in NYC. He was an associate producer for News and Documentaries. In December 2004, he was involved in a fatal accident on the GSP when his car was hit by a furniture truck that was attempting to make an illegal U-turn.

After the accident, our family began the Douglas Michael Scholarship Fund (non-profit 501(c)3) as a memorial to Doug and his passion for the cultural arts. Since its inception, we have awarded over $36,000 in scholarship money to UHS graduating seniors who have excelled in the Arts. We, also, award a $1000 Rising Star Scholarship yearly at the Papermill Playhouse in Doug's name.

Our fund, also, has given over $10,000 in grants and aid to individuals or groups who are involved in cultural arts projects beyond our community. Our goal is to keep Doug's dream alive through the success of others. We welcome the chance to help others achieve their dreams.

The Union High School Performing Arts Company, of which Doug was an active member, and the DMK Scholarship Fund came together to produce Union's Got Talent as a mutual fundraiser for both non-profit organizations. UHSPAC is an award-winning school organization that has been recognized nationally for its stage productions, concert, and jazz bands, and marching band excellence.

Since 2015, UGT has been a major community event with the Township of Union as our major sponsor.

All profits from UGT will directly benefit the DMK Scholarship Fund and UHSPAC.

Thank you for your support,
